nce again MBP was called on by Universal Studios to assist them with a "giant" project, create a football jersey, team pennants and a Rose that were big enough for KING KONG! Universal Studios was hosting the press conference between the coaches for Michigan and Washington State, the two teams playing in the Rose Bowl. The press event was being held in Universal's "KONG" attraction, in front of the 30 foot tall animatronic King Kong.
Michael Burnett and Tuck John Porter (MBP's resident Costume Designer) went out to Universal Studios, and in between tour trams, took measurements of the giant beast to create the costume and props.
Back in the shop, the MBP crew feverishly worked on creating the pieces before the shop shut down for the holidays. The jersey was sewn, the rose was constructed from sheet foam and the pennants were fabricated with detail work computer generated on vinyl.
After a nice long holiday weekend the MBP crew (Ken Banks, Chad Beaudry, Michael Chaille, Dan Gates, and Dirk Rodgers) with coffee and donuts in hand, went to Universal Studios at 5:00 am and prepped the big beast for his press event.
The press conference was covered by all the major networks, CNN, and many national and local newspapers.
